Pony Says is a trio for keyboards, electronic drums and electric guitar. The ensemble works at the intersection of contemporary music, live electronics, improvisation and club-informed performance practice.
Its projects focus on instrumental interplay and on how the sound world of electronic music can intertwine with the idiomatic possibilities of the trio’s instruments. Improvisation is an integral part of this practice: it serves as a laboratory for refining the trio’s interplay, expanding its sonic vocabulary and developing new material, while also appearing in concert on equal footing with composed repertoire. Pony Says primarily commissions new works developed in close collaboration with composers.
The ensemble keeps its sound deliberately elastic, while gravitating towards noisy, dense electronic textures, sonic clichés and rhythmic fractures.
Based in Stuttgart, the trio has appeared at festivals including ECLAT, Ultraschall, rainy days, Musikfestival Bern and Music Current. Pony Says is Lucas Gerin, Felix Nagl and Thilo Ruck.
